The Leading Edge Flying Club is dedicated to providing its Club Members with aircraft that offer the latest in aviation technology, for VFR & IFR flight training, cross-country flights, and flights to local destinations. Through an informal relationship with Fly There LLC, club members have access to a Red Bird Full Motion Simulator, which provides an opportunity for Club Members to hone IFR skills and receive Instructor monitored logged simulator time.
Also, affiliation with flight schools at Chicago area airports provide Club Members with available aircraft and instructors for aerobatics, unusual attitude recovery training, ratings on various aircraft, and an extended rental fleet...
Our flagship aircraft is a 2004 Piper® Archer III (PA-28-181) equipped with the Avidyne FlightMax® Entegra Flight Deck, offers state-of-the-art glass cockpit technology that includes dual Garmin® WAAS GPS navigation, audible and display Traffic Information Service alerts, S-TEC 55X Autopilot, and XM Weather that offers over 16 quick refresh Satellite imagery overlays on a moving map. This aircraft is available to student pilots for primary instruction and advanced instrument flight training, and to licensed Club Members for local flights, cross-country, and multi-day flights.
Another TAA aircraft that is available to Club Members for training and rental is a 2007 Cirrus SR20. Cirrus Aircraft has revolutionized general aviation by combining the most progressive materials and technology in their aircraft to deliver highly reliable, economic aircraft with top performance and safety. The SR20 includes the Avidyne Entegra flight deck, which presents flight and engine instruments, terrain, obstacles, and traffic on the primary flight display (PFD) and multi-function display (MFD).
The club is pleased to welcome a 2005 Cirrus SR22 to the fleet during February of 2012. Incorporating all the features of the SR20, plus TKS Ice Protection, new Garmin GTN650 Touch Screen Avionics, Avidyne DFC90 Autopilot, semi-portable oxygen, and 175 knot performance.
All of our current aircraft offer club members a safe and enjoyable flying experience with state-of-the-art equipment. Stay tuned for more additions to the fleet.
In an effort to also provide Club Members with opportunities for continuous improvement, Leading Edge Flying Club has also established an association with the Gauntlet Warbirds, located at Aurora Airport (ARR). Gauntlet Warbirds structures custom-designed courses for Club Members in tailwheel, high performance piston, turbine aircraft, and jet aircraft. Training in unusual attitude recovery techniques prepare Club pilots for unexpected situations by providing hands on experience in controlled recovery. Similarly, LEFC has arranged for introductory helicopter lessons with Bachman Aero, located at Schaumburg Airport (06C).
State-of-the-art web-based ScheduleMaster® service is used for conveniently scheduling the club aircraft and Member Instructors on the Internet or by phone, 24 hours a day.
