Are you really ready to take your FAA Checkride!

What Is a Mock Checkride?

Hello fellow LEFC aviators. My name is Bob Schmelzer and as many of you know, I am a club flight instructor and FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).

The flight training season is in full swing this time of year and I know several of our club members are busy putting the finishing touches on their private pilot or instrument checkride preparations. Besides myself, Alan Zielinski (another LEFC member), is also a DPE and either of us would be honored to provide your FAA checkride. However, whether you chose to use our services, or seek those of another examiner, I just wanted to offer an additional option that you might be interested in. I am referring to a “Mock Checkride”. A mock checkride is a great way to obtain a true checkride-like experience while polishing your knowledge and skills a bit more before your big (official) checkride day — but without any pressure, or risk of failure hanging over your head.

In fact, I believe that the mock checkride is so important an opportunity, that my “Checkride” column in the July 2010 issue of AOPA’s Flight Training magazine is dedicated to this very topic. The article emphasizes the importance of creating a mock checkride that is as complete and realistic to the actual event as possible. And, what could be better to create that realism than taking your mock checkride with an actual DPE?

While mock checkrides are not required, they sure can help provide that extra boost of confidence that comes with knowing you are truly prepared for your practical test. So, no matter whom you choose to take your FAA test with, consider the benefits of a complete mock checkride with a DPE for that extra realism, confidence, and learning opportunity that can be gained from the experience. We are offering the mock checkride to LEFC members for $295. (Note: Fee does not include the cost of the aircraft rental.) Please, discuss the idea with your flight instructor and give it a try. If you’d like more information or to schedule your “mock” checkride, contact either Alan Zielinski at (847) 967-7071, or me, Bob Schmelzer, at (847)838-4314. I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.
